Each time superstar swimmer Michael Phelps won one of his six medals (five gold, one silver) at the Rio Olympics earlier this month, the camera panned to the crowd, where his fiancée, Nicole Johnson, was cheering for him — always while wearing their 3-month-old son Boomer in a red star-print Tula baby carrier.
But the former Miss California, 31, also keeps her little one close in Lalabu’s Soothe Shirt, a sleeveless tank with a built-in pouch for baby. “It’s the easiest way to wear your newborn, because there’s no wrapping, adjusting or tying,” Brian Fosse, who owns the company with his wife, Keri, tells Us Weekly.
Even better: The wrinkle-free design, which retails for $70, has a built-in nursing bra and head support. “We had the idea that instead of making a new type of baby gear, we could make clothing that was the gear,” Fosse tells Us. “Then you don’t have to remember to bring it with you. It’s always right there when you need it.”
And this month, the company is launching the Dad Shirt — just like the Soothe but for guys — which will be perfect for the newly retired Phelps, who recently gushed, “I am ready to spend some time with Boomer and Nicole and watch the little dude grow.”

Phelps, 31, announced his retirement on Monday, August 15, following his history-making time in Brazil. “Done, done, done — and this time I mean it. I wanted to come back and finish my career how I wanted, and this was the cherry on top of the cake,” he told NBC’s Matt Lauer. “I’m done. I’m finished. I’m retired. I’m done. No more.”
