- Tristan Thompson is attempting to win custody of his disabled brother following their mother's death.
- Despite his efforts, the court has not yet approved his petition for permanent guardianship.
- Tristan also claims that his own father abandoned their family and has had no contact since 2014.
Tristan Thompson has allegedly never met the son he fathered with another woman while in a relationship with Khloe Kardashian – right around the time their surrogate got pregnant with their second child, son Tatum.
Though Thompson has received public backlash for his lack of a relationship with his youngest son (despite being on court-mandated child support), the NBA star is attempting to win custody of his 17-year-old disabled brother, Amari, following his mother’s death. And he’s calling out his own father for abandoning Amari.

However, the hypocrisy isn’t lost on the public, as fans can’t help but be reminded that Tristan abandoned his own son, just like he’s calling his dad out for doing. Like father, like son, huh?
Tristan Is Trying To Win Guardianship Of His Disabled Brother
Court documents obtained by Radar Online this week revealed that Tristan and his legal team provided further details in court following a request from a Los Angeles Superior Court judge for additional information.
Last year, Thompson was granted temporary guardianship of Amari following the passing of their mother, Andrea. Amari suffers from epilepsy and other medical conditions necessitating constant care, a responsibility Tristan has reportedly assumed since their mother's demise (even his ex Khloe has praised him for taking Amari under his wing).
Despite Tristan's efforts to secure permanent guardianship for his teen brother, the court has yet to approve his petition, citing the need for additional information as per the judge's request.

Tristan disclosed that Amari is slated to inherit $114,000 from their mother's estate, and he intends to invest it wisely for his brother's benefit. Moreover, Tristan outlined his plans as guardian, which include enrolling Amari in school, ensuring he receives proper healthcare, and facilitating international travel opportunities.
Tristan Claims His Father Abandoned Their Family
Moreover, the basketball star delved into further details regarding his relationship with his estranged father, Trevor Thompson. Previously, Tristan disclosed that he had no communication with Trevor and lacked an address to serve him with notice of the guardianship hearing. Tristan reiterated to the court that he remains unaware of his father's current whereabouts.
“Before Andrea Marie Brooks, the proposed ward's biological mother, died on January 5, 2023, she obtained sole custody of [Amari] in July of 2014. Trevor Douglas Thompson was ordered to pay child support to Andrea Marie Brooks as a result of the same proceeding which granted Andrea Brooks sole custody,” the court documents state. “Since then, Trevor Douglas Thompson has effectively abandoned the proposed ward; he failed to pay any child support despite the court order and has not been in contact with the [Amari] or Andrea Marie Brooks since July 2014.”
They added, “[Trevor] has done nothing to support or raise the proposed ward since then and has relinquished all rights to have any say in the proposed ward's care.”
Maralee Nichols, the woman whom Tristan shares his youngest child with, has been vocal about the fact that the NBA star doesn’t want a relationship with their son. However, she hasn’t responded to reports that Tristan is trying to win guardianship of his brother.
